I like to think I'm fairly observant. Bar's pretty empty today, it could use a little lightening up. Maybe some healthy competition. We can play for stories, maybe.
[Mostly it would be nice to spend time with a friend she doesn't trigger some overwhelming sense of guilt in, for once.]
[Though Tom will maintain he has absolutely no interesting stories. But he's lonely, too, and there's nothing wrong with a little social time, right? It won't kill him.]
[When in doubt, bribe him with food. Always works, right? It's like luring a puppy out from behind the couch.
And soon enough he appears, lingering by the door of the bar before coming in. One of the perks of living on the 5th floor: Jo was never very far away.]
[Really had to twist his arm, though, huh. Tom feels like he can hold his own. Jo did mention being a hustler.. so.. realistically he's doomed to fail, but he played a little bit in high school and here and there before his stay in the hospital. Not a complete beginner at least. He might through a few good shots.]
I haven't played in a while. Might be a little rusty.
[She grins, cracking open her own beer and taking a swig before heading over to the dartboard, pulling the darts free with one hand and offering the lot to him tail-first.]
Then by all means. Want a minute or two to warm up?
[She's noticeably in much better spirits than she was the last time he came into the bar, and understandably so.]
You may be rusty, but don't expect me to go easy on you.
I don't think there's anything about you that's going to go easy on me.
Uh- yeah gimmie a second.
[That was. Awkward. He takes the darts as a diversion tactic, busies his mouth with a swig of beer, and throws- just trying to get back into the swing of it. It has been over seven years. And fair enough. He hits a good mark half of the time, the rest seeing fit fall short of their mark. HNGH this is possibly the least impressive thing he could be doing right now.]
Tell me somethin', if no one uses money what's the point of having a bar? Why not just leave it open for anyone wanting?
[She folds her arms over her chest, raising an eyebrow as she watches and taking another long pull of her beer. Well, she's seen worse throwing.]
Not bad. Remember, keep your wrist steady.
[Backseat dart-throwing? Yep. She smirks wryly when he asks about the bar, offering him a shrug.]
It was in place before I got here. Same with the diner. I think people like a sense of normalcy. It's not here as a business so much as a communal hub. It works out for me. I don't like sitting idle. Need something to keep myself busy -- and this is something I know how to do.
[She smiles at the jibe, half-thinking about correcting him, but instead:]
The only dragon here is friendly. Not much interest in slaying him. Mostly he likes to be pet and play fetch. Girl's gotta find something else to do with her free time, right?
[She flashes him a thumbs up as his aim improve.]
Mostly people barter out there. You can get anything you need from the closets, so it's not really necessary, but you can trade.
[He gives her a long look, deciding that he's not going to ask about the dragon. He's just going to nod with a small 'uh-huh'. Turns out talking crazy is kinda fun when you're not the only one doing it.]
Anything at all? I thought it was just clothes.
[He retrieves the darts from the board and hands them off. Time to get schooled.]
Nope. Just about anything you can think of. The more specific you are, the more likely you are to get just what you want. Just like the rooms change to suit the people living in them.
[She hands him her beer in trade for the darts, wordlessly asking him to hold it for her as she lines up and takes her first shot. Bullseye, first off. Clearly, she's had a hell of a lot of practice.]
It might be captivity, but at least it's a comfortable cage.
[He takes her beer and holds it, letting out a low whistle at her first throw.
Tom guessed it wasn't so bad if you didn't mind being ripped apart from time to time. He'd sport that as a retort but it's ruin the mood, and they're having fun and god knows they don't need any more angst.
[She gives a satisfied smile at the whistle, tossing a second dart that lands just beside the first. The third is also close, but the rest are more staggered when they hit the board.
Okay, maybe she's easing up a little bit.]
You're talkative today.
[She raises an eyebrow at him before going to retrieve the darts from the board, taking her beer back before handing them off.]
You know, I'm sure we can turn you into a champion dart-player with a little practice.
[She's almost distracted enough by the guitar discussion to miss it, but she snatches her hand back just in time, pulling the bottle back with it and biting at her lower lip as she laughs.]
