[ The moment he replies she scrabbles for her device - and ouch, that isn't fun. She's barely scraped through the worst of her injuries as it is, now isn't the time to be jumping around, and yet- ]
Where were you where has he been- he stopped responding, she was worried, thought he'd-
[ And...guess who just figured out where he's been. Crap. ]
[Tom groans and shifts slightly where he's laying on his back in the middle of a hallway. His head is to the side with the device balancing on his ear because he thinks holding it would require too much effort.]
I what? No, I'm fine.
[Because don't be stupid he's right here obviously not dead.]
I think I blacked out is all. Sorry I didn't answer.
Does he know how long? Does he know what day it is?
[ At least it's now that she's finding this out and not two days ago, when they actual death had occurred. It's a lot easier to process in hindsight, and so she just swallows hard before letting out a slow breath. ]
She's okay. Got to the medical facility unlike some. What's the last thing he remembers?
I have no idea. I- uh. Those things were everywhere. I was going to swing by the kitchen and then find you. I think one of those things was around but I don't remember. Someone must have saved me.
[ ...This is a very difficult conversation to have over the phone, honestly. She frowns for a moment, silent, then clears her throat before continuing. ]
Maybe he should come to the clinic. He should probably be checked over anyway, and she's here for a while. Can explain everything then but...not like this.
[ Oh God he doesn't know about the death thing yet. She's the worst person to be left to explain anything, let alone the non-permanence of death here. This is going to be hard. ]
[And he finally pulls his ass up off the ground. He doesn't notice until he gets up completely but the carpet is filthy with blood. A huge puddle of it surrounding exactly where he had been laying - dried and tacky in the fibers of the carpet. A blood shadow. It's like something out Silent Hill.
Tom crinkles his nose and quickly steps out of it, orientating himself enough to find the clinic. He hasn't been there before but knowing his luck, it's a good place to know. When he comes in the worry is written all over his face. He's worried about the Hellhounds, he's worried about River, he's worried about blacking out, but he has to know she's okay and this is all over. Whatever it was to begin with.]
River-
[He doesn't want to startle her but the tone in his voice might have. It's just that he doesn't know how to process the worry burbling up in his throat.]
